Rosemary Bread

This flavorful bread recipe comes from www.food.com and is supposedly like Macaroni Grill's Rosemary bread.  It's a very easy bread dough which is done in the food processor.  I  think next time I make this I will increase the Rosemary.  I was worried that it would be too strong, but actually I thought it needed more.

Ingredients

1 tablespoon yeast
1 tablespoon sugar
1 cup warm water
2 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons rosemary (I will use 3 T. next time)
2 tablespoons butter, divided

Place yeast, sugar and water in large bowl  and allow mixture to become bubbly.
In food processor, pulse  1 T. butter, salt, and 2 cups of flour.
Add one tablespoon of the fresh chopped rosemary. Add the yeast/sugar/water mixture to the flour mixture in the food processor and mix.

Knead for about 10 minutes by hand or in food processor for several minutes until smooth and elastic.

Add more flour if necessary. (I needed all the flour).
Oil a bowl, put dough in it and cover with a towel.

Let dough rise in a warm place for one hour until doubled.
Punch down dough and divide in half.

Let dough rest about 5 minutes.

Spray baking pan or cookie sheet with cooking spray. (I use olive oil)

Shape the dough into 2 small rounded oval loaves.

Sprinkle remaining 1 Tablespoon of rosemary over the loaves and press lightly into the surface.

Let loaves rise again until doubled, about 45 minutes.

Preheat oven to 375°F.

Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, until lightly browned.

Carefully remove from oven, brush with remaining butter .  You can sprinkle with sea salt or Parmesan cheese.

  1. Sounds great! I have a huge rosemary plant (actually 2 plants) and might just add this to Sunday's dinner before it gets too hot and humid to bake bread any more:@)

  6. Hi Kittty, Rosemary is one of my favorite breads. I use to make bread occasionally, but these two oldsters started cutting back and bread was the first to go. Your recipe looks delicious and I may have to see if I have the touch and give it a try. Thanks for sharing your recipe, your pic has left me drooling for Rosemary bread.

  7. Kitty~ I can smell the heavenly rosemary scented aroma from your bread this morning! I'm not a baker and scared of yeast, but I might have to try this since I buy La Brea bakery's Rosemary Olive Oil round loaves at my grocery store :)

  8. You might be addicted to blogger... when you open a food related post and are certain that you can smell said food from where you are sitting. Maybe it's because I love the scent (and taste) of rosemary so much, but I honestly thought I did for a minute.

This look delicious. I've never had it at MG, but I would love to make it.
